An intersectional radical feminist approach: CALACS’ engagement against the oppression of women
The interventions and activities organized by CALACS are based on radical feminism, which posits that the oppression of women has its roots in patriarchal structures. This radical feminist approach is combined with an intersectional perspective, which recognizes that women do not make up a homogeneous group, and the diversity of their experiences is shaped by multiple factors.
The intersectional approach of CALACS considers the simultaneous and combined effects of the patriarchy and other systems of social oppression, such as racism, colonialism, ableism, classism, ageism and heterosexism. These dynamics deeply affect the life experiences, identity and social position for certain women, increasing their vulnerability to violence and injustice.
At CALACS, we believe that violence is a social phenomenon, not an individual problem. Violence represents a power imbalance of one person over another, and sexual violence is the most manifest and extreme form of violence. In this regard, our intervention practices value openness, respect and listening to the needs expressed by women, taking into consideration their lived experience. The goal is to foster individual and social change and combat all forms of violence and oppression.
